Do Software Graduates Today Need More Security Training?

21 September, 2017, by Blogger, 0 Comments

According to Pieter Danhieux, co-founder of Secure Code Warrior, some software developers working for large companies have inadvertently left them exposed to hackers. Many of them are entering the market as developers without the security skills they need.

Last week, Equifax (the US consumer credit reporting agency), joined a growing list of high-profile organisations that have recently been hacked.

While many Australian graduates can write functional, attractive code, they need a better grip on security, Mr Danhieux said.

Making mistakes and learning on the job is natural. But we’re living in a world where a hack can cause severe damage to an organisation’s reputation (Equifax watched its shares fall by more than 10% after the breach was disclosed).

What does this mean for your business? When choosing a software development company, take your time and look for a well-established firm with an excellent reputation. Ask for testimonials, and discuss security with the firm. How do they protect your data? What would they do in the event of a hack?

Looking for a custom software development company that takes security seriously? Get in touch and let’s talk about how we can help.
